{Corporate Life: The benefits of mentoring}

I've been involved in my company's formal mentoring for the past three years as an Operating Committee member. Basically that's a fancy way of saying that I'm involved in developing and executing the programming for the mentees. While the Steering Committee creates the scope, the OC delivers on that scope, and even sometimes tells the SC what the scope should be.

Tonight was the kick-off of our third year program and we knocked it out of the park with a Speed Networking and a red cow bell. I'm very excited for the things that we have in store for this year's mentees, especially since I'm lucky enough to be one of them again (I was in the program during the pilot year). From shadowing a senior employee, to professional development, we are going to offer these mentees something special this year. After the past couple of year's of thinking "Where's Wall Street going?" "Are there more layoffs ahead?", we can finally focus our sights on the future, and developing our internal talent.

Now while I'm psyched about how fortunate I am, how fortunate my fellow mentees are, I have to think about those less fortunate who have no control over it.

If you can spare $35, please consider sponsoring a child this year. If we are able to secure 10 sponsors by tomorrow night, a donor has generously offered to match your sponsorship. Please consider helping a child, or more for the holidays and make a less fortunate child's holiday wishes come true.

{Undercover Athlete: NYC tri}

This year the NYC tri organizers decided to try something new and did a lottery system to fill their 4,000 coveted spots.  The past few years have proven just how popular this race was, for locals and outsiders alike.  In mere minutes, the 4,000 spots would fill up shortly after the clock chimed midnight on November 1st.

So November 1st marked the first day to sign up for the lottery which was open for three days.  Apparently hordes paid $11 for a shot to compete in the 2011 NYC Tri.  I was among the masses that signed up, and among the majority of people who didn't get in.  Initially, I was upset, but then I came to terms with it and figured I'd sign up for other local, not so big tris.

However, I received an email today from NYC tri saying that I was selected during the 2nd round of lottery picks.  Color me flabbergasted!  Now I have to readjust my brain to think that I may actually sign up for the NYC Tri ... uh oh!

{Charity Life: Mad Men Hope for the Holidays}

As many of you know, I'm part of WGirls NYC, part of WGirls Inc and this year's Hope for the Holidays event is a Mad Men themed party.

With your help, the WGirls NYC will purchase, wrap, and deliver gifts for 500 children served by Harlem Hospital.  As one of the largest hospitals in the area, they are always looking for support as a majority of their patients are in financial distress.

Please consider sponsoring the wish of a little one (or two) this season.  It is a great way to thank you for all of the blessings in your life.

Purchase your tickets here, $50 a piece until December 1st.  1.5hrs of open bar at RDV, an exclusive hidden lounge in the basement of Meatpacking District hotspot Bagatelle.

{Fabulous Find: Silhouette Jewelry}

I came across this on A Cup of Jo from a few years ago and I thought the idea was super cute.  Designed by Meg Moorhouse of Love & Victory, the idea is to submit a picture if your loved one and they'll create a charm out of that person's silhouette in four weeks.

Would you wear one?  Maybe of your kids if you have them?

{Shopaholic: My new babies!}

To cheer myself up from a really awful day, and because I've been eyeing these shoes for forever and they're sold out in my size in the boutiques and the department stores, I've taken the plunge.

Say hello to Elisa, from Christian Louboutin!

{Social Life: 90's themed housewarming}

This past weekend Matty and I dug out clothes from the 90s and trekked over to our friend's apartment for our first 90s themed party.  Flannel and white washed jeans returned with eye popping surprise and giggles.  Matty went the hippie route with a tie-dye Phish concert tee and even brought along a hackey sack in his cargo pockets.  I went a different route with the grunge skater look and even tried to sport dreadlocks with my black nail polish.

What's your favorite theme for a party?
