Tween disguised as an adult

I am admitting that I am going to go see the new Twilight movie tonight.  I LOVED the books and I've been luke warm about the movies.  I will join the masses lined up at the theaters today and will probably join the masses tomorrow when we all say that Pattinson can't act for crap!  I will hold off permanent judgement until after the last movie comes out though.

When will you let your inner Tween reign free?

Two new lovely additions

This weekend I went to Woodbury Commons with two items in mind that I HAD to have; a white shift with a bold navy pattern and nude peep toe pumps or slingbacks.

Needless to say, I didn't find either of those items, but decided to splurge on the below two DVF dresses.  I really have a weakness for Diane von Furstenberg.

The black and white will be added to my dressier cocktail dresses and the polka dot one I can even throw on for work.

Watch out world, I'm going to strut my stuff!

Wardrobe staples

I'm trying to curb my spending spreeds on the trends, the cheap styles, and the hip for a moment cheapies.  That being said, the staples come with price tags that are quite hefty.  Here are some at the top of my list.

SATC 2 inspired

Having only seen SATC 2 yesterday, I really do realize how behind the times I am.  I'm going to be blasphemous and say that some of the outfits were really just horrible!  And the story line just made me sad.

That being said, Carrie wore a really awesome gray-purple dress when at the airport going to Abu Dhabi and it inspired me to purchase this Ravon dress.

Completed my first triathlon!!!

So Sunday marked my first triathlon and having completed it, I am now a triathlete.  Absolutely amazing!

At 5am the water temp in the Potomac was 81 and too hot to wear my safety net, aka wetsuit.  I was really counting on the extra speed, bouyancy, and just the comfort of having it, but oh well.

The race began about 30 minutes late, which shouldn't have been that big of a deal, but towards the end of the race I sure could've used 30 minutes worth of less sun.

The swim seemed never ending and I found it to be confusing that the return markers had the Olympic distances on them instead of the Sprint ones.

Finally getting out of the water and into transition, albeit one of my slowest, and I'm off on the bike around the monuments of DC.  Did I take any in?  Of course not.  I was too busy concentrating on keeping my bike in straight line while trying to navigate streets I didn't know well, riding in my drops, and keeping an eye out for all the Team Lipstick ladies around me.  Did I mention that Team Lipstick NYC had 11 ladies in this race and that it was Team Lipstick DC's first race too?

The bike course was so fun for me and now that I know it, I think I could've relaxed a little more on it than I was.

Ok here's where I'll admit that I walked my bike into transition and proceeded to walk out to the run.  I think that transition was almost 4 mins long.  Oh well...it was HOT!!!

The run killed me.  Absolutely destroyed me.  I was so hot and uncomfortable and couldn't wait until it was over.  I had one of my slowest miles ever and walked a decent portion of this course.

I'm glad this one is over, that I have a finisher's medal to prove that I did it.

This is it - RACE WEEKEND #1!!!!

So the weekend has finally arrived.  When I selected the innagural race of the DC Tri it seemed like eons away.  I had not only weeks, but months to prepare, to train.  Now in less than 48 hours the race will be behind me.  I will have completed my first triathlon.  I will be a triathlete!

It's amazing how the weeks of getting up at 5am and training during the week and the long rides on the weekend to Piermont or wherever, and the long runs up by Riverbank State Park all lead up to actually doing a race.

Although the anticipation of doing my first race is leaving me with butterflies in my tummy, I'm really excited to have my first race pictures up on FB like the rest of Team Lipstick

While I'm jumping in the Potomac, tooling around on my Dolce, and running past numerous national monuments, what will you be doing this weekend?

Sweet Sleep

Living in the city makes me want to just stretch.  Stretch my space, stretch my body, just stretch out.  If I had more space I would love to have rooms like this.

Jamaica Underwear Run 2011!!!

I stayed up until 12:00am this morning to sign up for this.  Any other "triathlete" knows how late that is when you wake up at 5am for morning loops in Central Park.  However, this looked like too much fun to pass by.  I'm signed up and ready to rock my Team Lipstick "undies"!  Are you??
The Jamaica Underwear Run is a 1.7 mile fun run that takes place in Central Park every year on the Friday before the New York City Triathlon. No transitions, no timing chips, no expensive race gear, just 500 strangers running around in their underwear. Another typical summer evening in New York City!

In 2009 the Jamaica Underwear Run broke the world record for the greatest number of people gathered in their underwear. With 448 scantily-clad sign-ins the Jamaica Underwear Run more than doubled the previous record.

The 2010 Jamaica Underwear Run will take place in Central Park on July 16, 2010 at 7:30 pm. Registration will open up on June 15, 2010.

Dress in your best Jamaican gear (whatever you consider that to be) and you could be on your way to fun in the sun in Jamaica! One winner will recieve a trip to the Rose Hall Resort & Spa, A Hilton Resort. Fresh from a $40 million makeover, it's the chic alternative to traditional Jamaican Resorts. You can enjoy a stunning, oceanfront luxury resort & spa experience plus the Caribbean's largest waterpark, championship golf and fantastic food. Round trip airfare courtesy of JetBlue. Jamaica, Once you go, you know!

Cape Cod

Matt and I are going to the Cape tomorrow night for a three day weekend. I'm so excited to just take a break, even though it is my fourth weekend in a row outside of the city. There's just something so soothing about small town life, sandy dunes, and wooden picnic tables. I love the feeling of sand between my toes and how my hair feels after a day at the beach.

Of course I'm towing my bike up there to get in a some long rides and some runs in before the inevitable DC Tri on June 20th.  Keep your fingers crossed I don't drown in the Potomac!

Happy new find

Jen gaves us beautiful necklaces for our bridesmaid's presents this past weekend which led me to this beautiful find, Etsy.  This amazing online community connects buyers with makers of jewelry, woodwork, artwork, knitting, quilts, plants, books, etc.  I just LOVE their handmade jewelry.

Coming to terms with Country

I spent the weekend in Baton Rouge at LSU for a two day country concert.  Having always embraced the ABC (Anything But Country) mentality, I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun I had, despite me not knowing most of the songs.

Keith Urban's stint was hands down my favorite.  I really enjoyed his pseudo rock/country vibe.  I was surprisingly disappointed in Taylor Swift's show.  I love her voice and her music, but her performance left much to be desired.  Most of the time she was just looking around the stadium which gave off the impression that she was in awe of the crowd in front of her and didn't really know what to do with us.  She wasted a lot of time in between songs and added a lot of fluff to her performance (ie video, just walking through the crowd, and a lot of story telling.)  All in all, if you were a 10 year old female, you enjoyed it, but as an adult, I liked the no frills approach that Keith, Kenny, and Brooks & Dunn chose.
